The Bride and Groom
Emily Swenson is the daughter of Rev. Randy and Jeani Swenson of Cook, Minn. Emily graduated from Fosston High School in 2001 and continued her education at St. Cloud State University. She graduated in 2005 with a degree in community psychology and child and family studies. She is currently employed by Forest Lake Schools as a behavior intervention specialist. Emily loves animals, especially the couple's cat, Gizmo, who can often be seen in photographs wearing a ridiculous pet outfit. Emily enjoys being active, whether on the court playing basketball or volleyball, or trekking along the beach on one of her many trips to tropical places.
Than Tibbetts is the son of Bill and Brenda Tibbetts of Lake Vermilion, Minn. Than is a 2002 graduate of Cook High School where he participated in basketball and baseball, and helped his school win a state championship in Knowledge Bowl. Than continued to pursue his love of learning at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities where he majored in journalism after spending some time studying rocket science. He is currently employed by Minnesota Public Radio as an online production assistant in the Moorhead, Minn., office. In his spare time Than enjoys being a rockstar, stalking the internet and taking pictures.
The Engagement
With help — and permission — from Emily's father, Than planned a secret picnic trip up to Vermilion Falls on July 26th. The plan ran into some resistance from Emily and her other family members who complained that the trip would keep them from enjoying the day on the lake in the Swensons' new pontoon boat. After a little negotiation, Randy managed to convince everyone that the trip would be worthwhile. With the ring tucked into his camera bag, Than guided Emily down to the bottom of the falls. Despite cutting her toe on a rock on the way down, Emily agreed to 'take a few pictures.' They talked about their life and future together, and instead of reaching for his camera, Than pulled out the diamond ring from his bag and asked Emily to marry him.

She said, "Yes!"
